A childhood friend of mine posted to Facebook asking if any of her artistic friends would be willing to take a stab at creating a hand-drawn looking image for her new business, Beyond the Bump, which focuses on helping new mothers. Since I don’t like to let an opportunity go by to challenge myself, I contacted her and told her that I would be happy to give it a shot! This is the result of our collaboration. The original illustration was done the old fashioned way, with pencil and paper. She requested a mother deer with a floral wreath on her head, lying with her baby fawn. Once I had gotten her approval for the general layout and feel, I inked a final version that was then scanned in to my computer. I added all of the color using watercolor brushes in Adobe Photoshop. This worked wonderfully because it allowed us to try different sky themes (dawn, daytime, night sky) with the click of a button.
