The Sellout of Sampson
Dead Slang Chronicles was a four part poster series illustrating the exploitation of hip hop and assasination of it's roots by corporate America using allegorical and metaphorical visual elements. This image, titled the Sellout of Sampson, shows the quasi- pop afterlife that the ghost of hip hop would be eventually stuck in. In the series corporate America is symbolized by a devil horned Marlon Brando Godfather image as the assasin. In part one, The Assimilation, Hip hop, which is symbolized by a cartoon image of Fat Albert, is assimilated into mainstream white America just before being assasinated. The two parts in between symbolize the actual death then the transformation before disipating into the infinite eternity of the waiting tabloid tainted afterlife. These four posters were all 58x36 inches and ended up being split to four different owners. Two sold to private owners then two to random recipients as part of Papergirl Berlin.
